Dr. Terri L. Funches
June 5, 1955 - January 3, 2020
On January 3rd we lost the soul of our family, Terri Lynne Funches, M.D. Terri was 64 at the time of her passing. Terri was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease in 2007. She fought this disease to the very end. Terri was a champion in everything that she did, including the battle with Parkinson's Disease. Terri was a remarkable mother, physician, and person. Terri determined at a very early age that she wanted to be a doctor. On the long road of realizing her dream to become a doctor, Terri was born and raised in Oklahoma City. She graduated from Northeast High School. Upon graduation, Terri went to Carleton College in Minnesota, where she graduated with a BS Degree in Biology. After graduation, Terri came back to OKC and worked as a Lab Tech in the Department of Biochemistry, College of Medicine. Terri also worked as a Draftsman with a local architectural firm, a Phlebotomist with the Blood Institute, and a Lab Tech with Kerr McGee. In between the various work endeavors, Terri met and married the love of her life, Walter Funches, Sr. Upon marriage two beautiful children were born. Terri was very intelligent and resourceful. She managed to raise a family, and go back to school to earn additional degrees. Terri graduated from the Physician's Assistant School, OUHSC, College of Medicine, with a degree as a Physician's Assistant, and the OU College of Medicine, with a degree in Medicine. Upon graduation, Terri worked as a Physician with the OKC Clinic, Midwest Medical Group, Heritage Park Medical Center, Tinker Air Force Base with Occupational Medicine, and Mary Mahoney Community Center. Terri leaves to cherish her memory, her husband, Walter; daughter, Lauren; and their son Walter, Jr. Additionally, she leaves her brother Jonathan Williams, a sister, Jackie, and a host of uncles, aunts, and cousins. The family wishes to thank all of those that were a part of her life. She was truly a special person.
